LakeCharles.com: What is your job title and how long have you been a physical therapist?
Lyons: I've been a Physical Therapist for 6 ½ years.  I am the Physical Therapy Team Leader for Acute care at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

LakeCharles.com: What attracted you to this field?
Lyons: When I was in high school I tore my ACL and went through quite a bit of physical therapy.  I was amazed with the therapists and their connection and impact they had on their patients.  I wanted to make that kind of impact on someone!

LakeCharles.com: What attracted you to Memorial Hospital?
Lyons: At LCMH we have a wonderful group of physicians, nurses and therapists that put great emphasis on mobility from the most critically ill patient to ones that are about be discharged from the hospital.

LakeCharles.com: What is the most common problem/symptoms you see with the patients you work with?
Lyons: Overall debility, strokes, total joint replacements, and respiratory issues

LakeCharles.com: What is the usual age group range of your clients?
Lyons: most of our patients are in the elderly population ages 60-90 but we work with all ages.

LakeCharles.com: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Lyons: I really enjoy seeing a patient go from a critical illness or surgery to walking out of here.  It takes a lot of hard work mentally and physically.  During that time you really develop a relationship with your patient and I can learn as much from them as they learn from me!

LakeCharles.com: How does Memorial do as far as giving you the support, freedom, resources to do your job?
Lyons: LCMH is very proactive when it comes to therapy.  Like I said before, we have a big emphasis on mobility in our facility.  We are fully supported with new ideas and techniques.  We have a wonderful group of therapists from acute care to rehab to outpatient.  The entire team has great communication and we all work very hard for the good of the patients.

LakeCharles.com: What did it mean personally to win the LCMH Rosie Thompson Award for outstanding commitment to service excellence?
Lyons: That award means I have a great team I work with that makes my job fun and rewarding!

LakeCharles.com: Are there any physical therapists in town that inspire you?
Lyons: There are some great Physical therapists in town.  I couldn't pick just one!  The ones that inspire me the most are the ones I work with.  They push patients to be at their greatest potential!
