Events - Big Win for local fighter, Big Knockouts, and Big Heavyweights

Whether you are a mma fan or not, it is here and here to stay. Each and every one of us knows or has heard the term UFC. And say what you will about it, but it is actually one of the world's most ancient forms of entertainment; dating back to the coliseum days of Rome.

Lake Charles has more than risen to the occasion when Bellator Fighting Championship has returned to L'Auberge for a third time, with each set of fights almost completely selling out. Bellator's unique tournament style fighting avoids all the political match ups and title shots that other fight leagues fall into, hence the slogan, "Where title shots are earned not given".

According to MTV officials, Bellator earned an average of 269,000 viewers with its broadcast on MTV2, peaking with 345,000 viewers during its third quarter hour.

Now these numbers don't mean much to the average viewer, but in the MMA world, fighting leagues are always getting compared to and/or bought out by UFC. There haver even been rumors of Bellator getting bought out by Strikeforce. Now this is great news for the fighters since with the merging of a smaller brand like Bellator joining a bigger brand, the purses for fighters inevitably increase.

The bad news could be that we no longer get our quality MMA fix. But another meaning the viewing numbers have is that the events are a huge positive for L'Auberge. Hopefully we will continue to have MMA in our back yard.

The heavyweight tournament was stacked with hard hitting' big boys. In the first bout, Ron "The Monster" Sparks ko'd Mark Holata quickly in the first round, knocking him out and laying on the mat for minutes slowly reaching his feet. The crowd went nuts and heads were shaking at the power of Sparks' left hand

Although the heavyweight fights had all the fireworks we have come to expect, perhaps the greatest victory was that of local fighter Josh Quayhagen. In his match against highly anticipated and MMA debuting Cosmo Alexander, Quayhagen disregarded the hype and won an unanimous decision after 3 rounds.

The exchanges were quick and ferocious with Quayhagen doing most of his damage in 1-2 combinations on his feet. After nearly two full rounds of avoiding Como's ground game, Josh finally took the ground with Cosmo and finished the second round with some ground and pound.

More of the same in the third round with Quayhagen doing all the damage and landing the cleaner shots pressing the fight more. Although this was Quayhagen's debut as well, he is sure to go on and do big things in the MMA world.
